UGHHHH……GROSSSSS……….EWWWWW….. All my sound effects as I tugged at my now flabby, mile long skin I have attached to my torso. Seriously… I LOVED being pregnant. Feeling my gift from God moving around in my belly is probably the most incredible experience I have ever had in my life. How can someone not know there is a God after experiencing a woman pregnant or giving birth? These little human beings are living in a sac full of fluids within our bodies! MIND BLOWN! Sorry… back on topic. With the beautiful gift of our babies comes a body of changes. I gave birth to my son one year after my husband and I got married in 2015. Before I could even attempt to get back in shape, I was pregnant with my daughter four months later. So my body was a hott mess! When I say stretched skin… I mean skin that could probably hide my two year old if he was looking for the perfect hiding spot. My whole body (other than my chicken legs) gained weight. So after I gave birth to my daughter, I was determined to get my body in shape before we went to the beach that summer.
I am that girl who loves to take shortcuts…. I’ve tried hydroxycut (water packets, pills, gummies), cleanses, and other ridiculous products that really aren’t effective for the long term result. So when I kept reading and hearing that diet and exercise was the only answer, I finally put my tail between my legs and listened.
I will be the first to tell you… I HATE EXERCISE AND LOVE FOOD! My favorite meal has always been FRIED chicken, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and bread. So thinking about changing my lifestyle was extremely hard for me. I will say after I convinced myself I needed a change, my body was in the best shape it has ever been in. I actually lost all my pregnancy weight plus 15 more pounds. The healthiest I have ever been and felt.
What I did to help me get back in shape:
-I started with P90x3 with Tony. You can get this on Beachbody on Demand. I woke up every morning at 5 to make sure I could workout before the kids were up for the day. As a mom we cal all admit….when the day gets started there is no time to workout…and there is no way to always count on nap time. By the end of the day, I was so exhausted all I wanted to do is climb in my bed. P90x3 is only 30 minutes which was perfect for me! I don’t think I could workout for a hour, and it changed so much I never got bored. PLUS I would play the workout on my computer and watch my missed reality trash t.v. shows as I worked out. WIN!
-After 3 months (which is the end of the workout unless I wanted to repeat), I wanted a change. I ended up trying 21 Day Fix with Autumn Calabrese that my mom owned. LOVED it!! These workouts were also 30 minutes long, and her ab workout is LEGIT!! I have never had abs before…but I actually had some tone with her workout. THIS HELPED WITH MY STRETCHED OUT SKIN! Think about it…. the more muscle you gain…the less your skin will hangover.

-I also found ways around the house to slip in some exercise. I would do calf raises as I was washing bottles or fixing their lunch. Sit-ups while playing peek-a-boo with them. Running around the house while pulling them on a wagon. There is so many ways to exercise while playing with the kids.
This was soooooo extremely hard! But somehow I did it…. I think I was just at the end of not feeling good physically and emotionally. After I started eating better, I had A LOT more energy than ever before.
-I drank water ALL DAY LONG! I started out with lemon water which helped me with my digestive system. I LOVE coffee and always need caffeine, so I bought caffeine water packets instead. I love the crystal light wild strawberry energy packets. They taste amazing and really gave me some energy. DRINKING YOUR CALORIES IS THE WORST THING YOU CAN DO! Everything I drank was literally water (with or without zero calorie flavors).
-Every morning for breakfast I ALWAYS drank a Lean1 smoothie. DELICIOUS!! I am craving my smoothie as I type. The flavors I have tried are the chocolate and vanilla with half a banana and a small tablespoon of peanut butter added. I usually bought the vanilla since it was lower in calories. I realized if I didn’t start my day with a smoothie for breakfast, the rest of the day was harder to eat healthy.
-Snacks and 3 meals a day were a must. I had one snack in between breakfast/lunch and another snack between lunch and dinner. I will make a list of snacks and meal examples I prepared.
-Garcinia cambogia, fish oil, and my daily vitamin were taken every single day. After my lemon water, I always took a garcinia cambogia vitamin. I am not 100% sure this vitamin helped me lose weight, but I will say after taking this every morning I saw a difference. It is known to help with weight loss, so if you asked me if it worked? I would have to say yes just based on my experience. I also took fish oil every night which has many health benefits from helping to lower blood pressure to weight loss.
-Every night I had a cup of hot green tea. Not only did it fill my cravings for coffee, but green tea has many health benefits. It’s rich in catechin which fight and prevent cell damage. It also lowers cholesterol and blood pressure.
These are the simple meals/snacks I ate everyday. I honestly looked forward to eating them surprisingly enough. Every once in a while I had to cheat. I realized if I didn’t…I would go crazy. One week I didn’t cheat at all, and I ended up eating a WHOLE large Little Caesar’s pizza by myself! Not cool! this list doesn’t have many options, but it was what I did and enjoyed.

So this is me when I was pregnant…. do I have to point out the huge pregnant lady in the picture? One thing I regret during my pregnancy is enjoying it TOO much. I had in my head “I am going to get fat anyway, so why not enjoy it?” That is not the way to go. The more you eat and put on the pounds… the harder it is to come off.
This is me the summer after I gave birth to Harper (my 2nd baby). I was eating healthy and working out every morning. Am I still insecure about my body? YES! Do I think there is more improvement I need to make? OF COURSE! But I am proud of being determined and meeting my first goal of losing the baby weight.
