Halloween…. a day to get your kid all jacked up on sugar, a day you can pretend to be anything but yourself, and a day of pumpkins and family traditions! I am not into the whole hocus pocus of halloween… I just love holidays! It gives us excitement of traditions, crafts, and food. When you have kids, the excitement of holidays triple!
Realizing today was almost two weeks from halloween (by checking my son’s chocolate milk expiration date… I swear I always get the cartoon that has the earliest expiration), got me excited to throw a themed day with the kids. If you have ever read my blogs before, you can probably tell I am a theme fanatic! Throw a theme my way… and we’ll make a day out of it.
I quickly threw together some snacks:
-mini halloween cupcakes
-cheese and pretzels for witch’s brooms
-monster creamed muffin
-oranges (which I was going to make into pumpkins… but considering I only had nap time to work with.. that didn’t happen)
I had the kids decorate their own mini desserts using edible eyeballs, sprinkles, icing, and reeses pieces.
Brooks literally piled reeses on his…. We turned this into a learning experience… We counted each one as he added it to the muffin. Harper was into the sprinkles… totally chick move.
As they kids at their snacks, I read some halloween books. They LOVE LOVE LOVE these books.
We always have to do some sort of arts and crafts…. got to have something hanging on the refrigerator right? I decided to have the kids stamp pumpkins with apples. Brooks and I counted the pumpkins (well I counted, but I figured the more I repeated it the more he would learn 🙂 )
This is our foot/hand artwork haha….. If you are a mom, you totally get how hard it is to get a handprint of a one year old!! I pat myself on the back for getting my sweet Harper’s foot print… she was FURIOUS at me holding her foot.
The wicked die and disappear, but the family of the godly stands firm.
