60’s Themed Day
I have an odd obsession with themed days! I cannot get enough of them…. It just makes me look forward to the day and having fun with the kids. With themed days, we try to have themed snacks, activities, and maybe even dress up for the occasion. The kids love it! It is the one day they have tons of sugary treats and candy so that could be the big reason, but I think it excites them to know we are doing something different.
I was thinking about all the negativity and hurt going on in this crazy world today. Everyone turning against one another when we should all turn our eyes up to our Heavenly Father, so I started thinking about peace and how that would look if we all just found peace with one another. If we loved just loved one another regardless of how someone looks or believes, how different this world would be. We are all unique and different in our own way, but we are all daughters and sons of one God. With that in mind, I decided we should have a peace and love day which obviously lead to peace signs and flowers… day of the 60’s.
Tie Dye shirts were a MUST! Duh right? I gathered a white shirt of Brooks and a white onesie of Harpers that were already stained and used those to brighten up with colors. The kids loved watching the white turn to color. Of course it can be EXTREMELY messy with dye…so we had to be careful. Brooks loved his shirt haha he kept pointing at all the colors. Great for teaching colors too! I had to put this oversized pink wig on Brooks…I know! I know! No mom should put a wig on their son, but I couldn’t help myself! haha he kept shaking his head laughing. I love how my kids will let me decorate them.
We ended up baking some fruity pebble treats which was super easy! I found the recipe here . Honestly… I love rice krispie treats but these by far were better. I love being in the kitchen with the kids making goodies. Watching them taste try and looking at me with the sweetest smiles…. I am constantly taking brain pictures. For the rest of the colored snacks, we had sour straws and floral cupcakes.
With colors…comes crafts! I love letting the kids paint, but I wanted it to somehow be tie dye. I found this craft activity that the kids could do with simply balloons, paint, and paper. PERFECTION! Balloons and paint? It was a win win with the kids. Brooks loved seeing the colors mix in on the paper. Plus we were jamming out to some old beats!
Yes today will be remembered!
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
